+  Sidai Designs

Founded in 2011 by Eszter Rabin, a graphic designer by trade, Sidai Designs is a non-profit organization that works completely with up-cycled materials to create traditional and contemporary beaded jewelry. When Eszter first visited Northern Tanzania in 2009, she fell in love with the beautiful beaded jewelry created by women and worn by everyone from a young age. Often illiterate and married by age 13, the women in the Maasai society are completely dependent on the men for income, yet they have incredible beading skills that could give them a chance for self-sufficiency.

Inspired by the symbolic cultural significance of the Maasai jewelry, each piece tells a story. Jewelry is an integral element of the Maasai identity and through their products, Sidai Designs endeavor to tell their stories and preserve the traditions of this unique tribe.

"The rich heritage of the Maasai culture is a strong influence for many of our collections. We want our pieces to reflect the uniqueness of the culture while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic appeal."

From conception to design to finished product, the highest level of attention is paid to detail and quality. Each piece is created entirely by hand using a combination of ingeniously up-cycled products…traditional glass beads are intricately joined using thread salvaged from old grain bags and enhanced with recycled metal beads, old canisters and yoghurt pots to create the boning…and then elegantly finished with luxury soft leather.
