wood trays

Since the lovely article about us came out on Remodelista the other day we have had a lot of requests for information about these wood trays...which are indeed beautiful. They are hand-turned from Sheesham wood (also known as Indian Rosewood) which is a fast-growing hardwood, sourced from sustainable managed plantations. They come as a set of five: the smallest at 8" in diameter up to the largest at 16".

Wood pieces should be gently hand-washed with soap and water and left to air-dry thoroughly before putting away (moisture left in the wood can encourage microbial growth). To periodically sanitize the piece, mix three tablespoons vinegar with one cup water, rinse the entire item with the solution, and then  clean as above. Regular use  brings out the natural oils and they should not be put in the dishwasher or left to soak in water as this strips the oils from the wood, causing them to dry out and possibly crack. To keep the wood conditioned and to prevent warping or cracking, occasionally rub with refined food-grade mineral oil, let it sit for up to 30 minutes, and then wipe off the excess.
