+ Elsa Esturgie
After studying the fine arts and attending l’École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Elsa Esturgie could have devoted herself solely to textile-making, but the final form and purpose of the object called to her...and so she makes clothing. The atelier of Elsa Esturgie, bright and tranquil, is tucked into a cobblestoned cul de sac in the heart of an historically industrial neighborhood in Paris. Here she explores the limitless resources of fabric with an experimental, hand-crafted approach, keeping the cut of her designs simple and the color palette neutral in order to give the material its full force of expression. Spotlighting natural fibers such as silk, cotton and wool, motif and ornament are absent beyond the grain of the fabric itself, which, smooth or dry, makes its presence felt. The results are perennial and free of trends and her fluid shapes and elegant style capture the essence of femininity.
