Wayuu Mochila #2

120.00

Each complex bag is a unique and one-of-a-kind piece of traditional Wayuu art and takes several weeks to hand-crochet and finish off with hand-braided straps and yarn tassels. Unlined.

The Wayuu live in small settlements organized in matrilineal clans (Wayuu children carry their mother's last name), making the women not only the centre of the family but cultural leaders as well. To the Wayuu weaving is a symbol of wisdom, intelligence, and creativity, and each mother teaches the skills to her daughters, keeping the traditions alive and vibrant.
